The Objective: To successfully execute a traditional ship-christening ceremony that not only accomplished the client’s objectives, but also served to provide guests with a complete and memorable experience.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics introduced the newest member to its fleet, m/v Fedora at a naming ceremony held at the South Locust Point Cruise Terminal in Baltimore, Maryland. The ceremony brought together prominent individuals, clients and dignitaries who were directly involved with the execution and design of this important vessel.

In keeping with company tradition, the new vessel was named after one of the world’s great operas “Fedora”, a dramatic 19th century Italian work.

Mrs. Patricia Lane, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Deere & Co. handled the proceedings. Her participation was a symbol of the long-standing and successful relationship enjoyed between Wallenius Wilhelmsen and John Deere.

The client’s objectives were clear and straightforward:

  • - To officially name the vessel
  • - To celebrate corporate partnerships
  • - To position and communicate their corporate environmental platform

In order to accomplish these objectives, the event was divided into three phases: A naming ceremony, tours of the vessel with photo opportunities, and a formal dinner involving toasts, salutations and presentations of gifts. Challenged to ensure the precise timing of each phase, Fandango Productions had to work closely with all partners for a flawless christening.

Everything went off without a hitch, and guests were able to view the vessel in all its glory as it departed the port, accompanied by an opera soloist performing an aria from “Fedora” amidst the burst of a choreographed fireworks display overhead. Guests will remember this vessel not only because of its pure size, measuring 227.8 meters long with a deck capacity area of 67,300 square meters (approx. 8,000 cars), but because of Fandango’s impeccable attention to detail and execution.

The m/v Fedora’s christening demonstrated Fandango Productions ability to incorporate well-known figures among the vessel industry all-the-while realizing the most important parts of the event, culminated into a flawless, unforgettable spectacle for its guests.
